Madeline’s Mission

Rising Hope for Healing

Madeline’s Mission is a 501(c)3 nonprofit located in Maine, USA. Madeline’s Mission encourages any grieving family to reach out, but can best provide resources in the greater Midcoast Maine area.  Where possible, Madeline’s Mission may help connect a grieving family with resources closer to their geographic area where needed.

Surviving Child Loss

No one ever wants to be in the child loss “club”, and those who find themselves in a club they never bargained for can feel lost, alone, and scared.  Madeline’s Mission works to offer hope, comfort and guidance during the unfathomable life following  the loss of a child– both directly after the loss and in the lifetime to follow.

In the same way that a doula would help a mother through childbirth, Madeline’s Mission helps to serve as a navigational resource for parents, guardians, siblings and immediate families experiencing child loss.

Education and Outreach

It’s a tough topic to talk about- but we’re here to help educate and brainstorm with providers about how to best support bereaved parents. Invite us to speak with your group!

Support Groups

We have support groups that meet monthly to help connect families and cultivate friendships and support. We create a safe space for people to talk about their children. All are welcome.

Children’s Memorial Garden

Our beautiful children’s memorial garden is located in Brunswick Maine and provides space to remember our children together. Come visit our butterflies!

Peer to Peer Support

No one should ever have to face child loss alone. We offer peer support to help connect bereaved parents to others that will understand. We also connect grievers with outside support.

Meet Madeline

A silly, sweet, loving child, Madeline spread joy to all who knew her. She was always quick to give a hug or share a silly song.  She loved jumping in muddy puddles, balloons, the color red, playing with friends, and snuggling.   Most of all, she took great pride in being a big sister and loved her family, drawing them in pictures over and over.

Just before her fourth birthday, she was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, passing away suddenly two short months later.

As her family and friends began to grieve the loss of this bright light, it became apparent the need to help fill in the gaps in care surrounding the loss of a child.  In her memory, Madeline’s Mission was formed to help share the kindness Madeline spread throughout her short life– and help provide hope to families surviving child loss.

Visit our Children’s Memorial Garden

With a generous gift of space from Mid Coast-Parkview Health, Madeline’s Mission aims to create a memorial garden for families wanting to honor their child or baby that has died. Located by a beautiful little pond on the Parkview campus of Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, Maine, the Madeline’s Mission Memorial Garden will provide a space for families to remember and honor their child with a butterfly sculpture in their honor. The Madeline’s Mission Children’s Memorial Garden will create a serene space for reflection and healing.
